How to tell a fish is fresh

The five checks from our own guide, so you know what to look for when your box arrives.

Clear eyes

Shiny and bulging with dark pupils. Cloudy eyes mean an old fish.

Red gills

On a whole fish the gills should be bright pink or red inside.

Firm, shiny flesh

It should bounce back when pressed, with scales held on tight.

A clean smell

Mild and pleasant, never sour or strong.

No dull patches

No brown or yellow edges and no spongy texture.

Cook fresh fish the same day, or keep it up to two days in the coldest part of the fridge.

Our story

Tan, with tons of freshness

Mr and Mrs Tan opened their fish stall at Chong Pang City Market in 1980, and in time began supplying restaurants too. Their children brought the stall online, with help from the first generation, so families can order from the same counter and have it delivered.

When will my order arrive?
We deliver Tuesday to Sunday between 1pm and 6pm. Order by 8pm for delivery the next day. The markets are closed on Mondays, so Sunday orders arrive on Tuesday.
Is the fish cleaned before delivery?
Yes. Every fish is cleaned, scaled and gutted by default. Weights on the site are before cleaning.
Are fillets and slices boneless?
We remove every bone we can see and feel by hand, so fillets and slices have minimal to no bones. Small pin bones can still hide in the flesh, so take extra care with young children and the elderly.
Can you find a fish that is not on the site?
Many fish are seasonal, so not everything is listed. WhatsApp us at +65 8917 5893 and we will source it if we can.
